In this episode of Joe’s Path to the Pros…

We look back to the day Joe Pavelski was called up by the San Jose Sharks where he capitalized on the opportunity by scoring his first career NHL goal in his first game in the pros. Pavs talks about getting the start he was looking for by scoring 5 goals in the first 8-9 games witch gave him confidence early in his rookie year. Also, we look at Joe Pavelski’s injury he sustained and how it impacted him.

After a hot start in his rookie year…

Joe talks about the adversity he went through after breaking his foot in an overtime game against the Dallas Stars when he a puck hit him the ankle while attempting to block a shot. After putting his foot in a boot for the night, he woke up the next morning unable to walk, realizing he can’t play. Joe Pavelski’s injury impacted his game after returning. He started going from 15-18 minutes a game to a healthy scratch in the playoffs.

With his foot injured and little ice time…

Joe Pavelski explains how he looked to his mentors for inspiration. His former skill coach, Ron Johnson explains how Pavs is always looking to get better, and that he always listens to advice and walks away always looking to get better. Pavs explains how he took inspiration from Nicklas Lidstrom, by banging a ball off the wall with his stick to improve his hand-eye skills. Pavs also demonstrates some of his favorite drills to work on during practice that translates directly to the game.
