At TorchPro, our motto has always been to inspire greatness, and Tess Hackworthy is a perfect example of living that mantra.
Tess grew up in Madison, Wisconsin, as the youngest of four children in a tight-knit family. Tess considers her family to be one of the most important aspects of her life, and considers them a huge source of inspiration, motivation, and support throughout her life and playing career. They have helped her through training, recovery, and continue to help her strive to accomplish her goals.
Tess began playing golf around three or four years old through a junior program in her neighborhood, where she played every Friday and enjoyed the competition aspect and being around the other kids. Her brother also played, so this was a way for her to keep up with him and gave her an activity she could beat him in. She began competing in tournaments at the age of nine and continued playing more and more competitively into high school where golf became her main focus.
When Tess was thirteen, her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and she began searching for ways to help. Two months after the initial diagnosis, Tess had organized a “Walk for Courage” that raised over $50,000 that went to the Carbone Cancer Center where her mother was being treated, and she has since organized three subsequent events to raise money for breast cancer awareness and to help with her mother’s treatment. Tess said she looks to this instance as a reminder to herself, and hopefully, a motivator for others, that no matter how old you are or what your current situation is, that you can find a way to help others.
As a freshman in college, Tess got a scare of her own when she was diagnosed with skin cancer. Being a golfer, at the University of Wisconsin at the time and now as a professional golfer, avoiding the sun is no easy task for Hackworthy. Just like when she got the news of her mother, this would not be a stopping point for Tess, but instead would be another way to motivate herself forward to keep chasing her goals. With her position as a professional athlete, Tess hopes to use her platform to inform, educate, and encourage others, especially those who are also battling with melanoma, to take care of themselves and their skin.
“I’m so excited to be joining the TorchPro team,” says Hackworthy with a smile. “After hearing their mission to inspire greatness and seeing the way they are helping other athletes use their platforms and grow their personal brands, I knew this would be a perfect fit for me. I think back to when I was first getting started and seeing the athletes and individuals that inspired me, and I hope that I can be that same source of motivation for future athletes.”
Even off of the golf course, Tess is a very active person and places an emphasis on her own personal health and well-being. She follows a specific workout regimen and keeps herself to a well-rounded diet, and can often be found eating her favorite LeanFeast meals.
